Uniting Health Care & Environmental Responsibilities
There has been a lot of turmoil in the Health Care Waste Management (HCWM) profession in Southern Africa; with a lot of media exposing the unlawful disposal of hazardous waste. The Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA)’s 3rd Biennial Health Care Waste Summit & Expo will be taking place from 15 – 17 May 2013 at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg and all stakeholders in the health care waste management field are urged to pull together and work towards solutions for the industry as a whole at this summit.
“The Health Care Waste Summit & Expo 2013 is more than just a conference,” says Dr Suzan Oelofse, IWMSA Vice President. “It is a high-level meeting place of industry leaders, experts and decision-makers, where all the stakeholders will work together to design profitable business models aligned to South Africa’s legislation and regulations. We will be encouraging interactive panel discussions, sharing experiences through case studies of successful health care waste solutions and also have facilitated open panel sessions debating pertinent issues stakeholders are faced with in the industry. The theme for this far-reaching forum is: “Uniting Through Shared Health Care and Environmental Responsibility”; Transportation, disposal technologies, The Waste Act, awareness creation and best practice service delivery will be amongst the variety of the attention-grabbing topics that delegates can look forward to.
In respect to the growing demand for information in both strategic and practical spheres of the health care waste management industry, the conference will shed some light on the adherence and compliance to regulation and legislation as well as focusing on best practice strategies for implementation in the treatment and disposal of health care waste, with the aim of advancing the industry as a whole.
